Guided Tours and Visits

Visits by adult groups
There are guided tours available for groups to learn about the library services. For visits by adult groups to the main library, please contact the information service (044 701 5810 or tietopalvelu(@)pori.fi) well in advance. Visits will take place on weekdays between 9:00 and 15:00.
Visits by day care groups and school classes
The library offers guided visits for day care groups and children in grades 1, 3, 5 and 7. Other groups are also welcome to visit the library, either on their own or with guidance. The library prioritises the age groups listed in Kulttuuripolku (Cultural Trail).
Contact your nearest library. It is advisable to make an appointment with the library well in advance.

The functional story time consists of a story and an experimental playtime focusing on media education. The duration of the visit is about 45 minutes. The libraries that run the functional story times will contact the day care centres and arrange the visits.

What skills will it take to become a library detective? On 1st grade children will visit their local library or the mobile library. In the workshop the children will get to practise their detective skills, solve puzzles and finally be dominated library detectives. The workshop is a playful introduction to the library, learning the basics of finding information and visiting the library. The duration of the visit is about 60 minutes and the group size is one class at a time.

On 3rd grade the aim of the visit is to find everyone a book that matches their interests and reading skills. The book matcher will help in this task by presenting books that are generally suitable for 3rd graders. After the common book match session, the book matcher can help find the perfect book in the library collections. Remember to bring your own library card!

On 4th grade the aim of the visit is to sharpen the information retrieval skills of the children on Information adventure. A vile virus has attacked the library computers, transforming the information on books into a garbled letter jumble. The children must go back in time and learn to use ancient code breakers, which are the only way the texts disheveled by the virus can be untangled. This is a task for the focused fourth-graders!
The Information adventure teaches how to find information in the library and in the online library. The duration of the adventure is about 90 minutes and the group size is one class at a time.

Lower secondary school begins with a book match visit to the local or the main library. The duration of the book match session is about 30 minutes, after which there is some time to borrow books and get to know the library selections. The group size is one class at a time.

Other school grades are welcome to guided library visits, resources allowing. A guided library visit may include a book match session, guidance on what to do in the library or how to search for information, or a tour of the library. Please arrange your visit with your library well in advance. For visits to the main library, contact the childrens’ and young adults’ section for pre-primary, primary and lower secondary school group visits, and the adults’ section for upper secondary and vocational student groups.
